P90X day 16

So we’re back to Plyometrics today (that’s not me in the video, but you can see how crazy it is). Man, I hate this DVD. I’ve never been much of a jumper, oddly enough, I don’t think in the past I have ever got to the last 10 minutes. I made it all the way to the baseball pitch and the basketball toss, but I was spent after that.

Had to hit eject and take a walk around the block.

But the thing that hit me today was – how much more this felt like a workout than the previous day with the weights. Bottom line, I am not using heavy enough weights. I am not getting the most out of my excessive on the strength days.

I just don’t have heavy enough weights. So I want to Academy to look around. Oh my goodness! Do you know how expensive dumbbells are? Tony is always saying, “I got my 45′s” You know how much a set of 45′s cost? Sheesh.

Well, my motto is “good, fast, cheap” – pick two and forget the third.

So I wanted cheap and good… so I didn’t get fast. Which means, I got the old fashioned rubber covered cement adjustable set.  The boxes usually say that they are 40 lbs set, but they mean 40 pounds TOTAL, you cant put 40 pounds on a single dumbell, the most they sell you is 20 pounds.

I got the Marcy set – which gives you a 1 lb bar, two 2 1/2 lbs and two 7 1/2 lbs. Well the sets were on sale for $14 a box. So my wife pointed out that they were so cheap, I should just buy 2 boxes. She’s a smart woman, so that’s what I did. Now, with the extra box, only $30 bucks bought me a pair of:

  • 5
  • 10
  • 15
  • 20
  • and 30′s

Individually those same sets in the pre-fab’s would have cost me $144.82! Weights are expensive! Do yourself a favor and shop around. I wonder how many people have quit P90x because of all the extra expense that goes into the program.

I didn’t want to buy all this equipment, but at the same time, I don’t want to be out of shape any more either.

Still pushing play

Good on you for sticking with it!

I have the regular individual dumbbells up to 30#, I think. Of course, my home gym has been a junk holder for a few years. I was finally able to sit on the bench recently due to cleaning out and packing up to move (but no workout). I really want to start working out again. When I was doing that routinely is when I had the best opinion of myself and felt my best.

I’ve always wanted to be fit in mind, body and spirit. It seemed I always had time for 2, but never all 3. Now, I am just getting “too old” to ignore it any longer
