Well done, as usual, Becky. Despite the name of my blog, I share your cynicism and concerns over Emergent hipsters. Despite being an Emergent hipster, I am just as worried about the irrelevance of the so-called "movement" we're creating.

Thanks for speaking prophetically.

I think there is some danger in becoming too much "an outsider," only because the only way to critique without violence is from the inside (imho). I've explored the possibility of going "outside," and it doesn't scare me - but I would rather elbow Evangelicals as an Evangelical than punch them as a seeker. Maybe that's too dualistic - the in/out paradigm is not so simplistic.

One of my greatest concerns with any supposedly-progressive forms of faith is exactly as you articulate: a lack of female voices. A lack of queer and racial minority voices, too, for that matter.

I think that any attempts at being better Christians or new kinds of Christians will inevitably fail if the ethos of the Beatitudes not only serve as our starting point, but also as our ending point, and our anchor for everything in-between.

Thanks David and Becky.

I agree, I think we as Christians always struggle (especially pastors) with being personal with the audience. But until we as leaders do it, how can we expect the rest of the world to follow suit. It's like Jonathan Acuff's joke on a "Christian's deepest confession in small group" is something along the lines of "I don't pray enough." Wow -thanks for opening up. (ha ha)

Thanks for taking the time to read the book - you're right, the personal diary got woven into the traveloque at my editor's request. I hesitated getting to personal because I went a bit into my dysfunctional family tree in the New Atheist Crusaders but due to personnel changes, the book got mangled and I felt my stories were out there and exposed in a way that gave me pause. But this time around, I had an amazing editor, so I felt comfortable going even deeper.

I stand with RC Sproul: http://www.monergism.com/thethreshold/articles/onsite/sproul01.html "If we believe that faith precedes regeneration, then we set our thinking and therefore ourselves in direct opposition not only to giants of Christian history but also to the teaching of Paul and of our Lord Himself."
