Defiant Zombie Church
We interrupt these theological broadcasts to bring you the terrible church logo of the day. It’s this one. I come across a lot of church websites in my job search quest and this one just leapt off the screen today. Actually it punched me in the face. Really? A church logo that contains a rising fist? When I see that image it makes me think of resistance and freedom fighters. It’s an image of power and strength and in a lot of ways… defiance.
And what is the fist rising up out of? A tombstone? Is this a church of defiant zombies? But the tombstone is sitting in clouds and has wings, so I guess it’s a grave in heaven….? hmmm.
Is that the right image for the church?
Is that the image Christ told us to project to the world?
And because our society is so dominated by images [TV, computer screens, movies, video on cell phones] we are going to have to take a closer look at the way we communicate Christ to the world. Just as the Gutenberg press changed the way people took in information, the TV world is changing it again.
We think in images, dream in images, and learn in images.
What does the above image say to you? I’d like to hear what you think?

Wow. Yeah, I’m with you on this one. I think it’s supposed to be a house shape, not a tombstone, but yeah, the fist is just unacceptable. I know the wing/angel look is actually really popular right now in the “messy” graphic look, but those wings are just BAD. Why is the church of angry people flying away? I don’t know, but I wish they would.

Pretty horrible, especially for whoever the designer is. The people are all holding up crosses and Bibles like in a rally or protest. So, yea it’s like they’re saying “We’re against everyone that’s not in our church!!” Not really the message of Jesus….but yea.

The wings made me think of tattoos. Nothing wrong with tattoos, that was just my very first thought when I saw the logo.
